The motivation behind unsugar.sg

I saw first-hand on how diabetes robbed away the life out of my grandma. Gone were the days she could enjoy sweet treats. She had segregated meal options compared to the rest of the family and unable to share much of the home-cooking. White rice turned to brown, low-GI rice. She had to pack diabetic-friendly food to gatherings or risk falling due blurred vision/ headache when her blood sugar spiked too high.

Creating and sharing sugar-free desert options that are inclusive to diabetics and non-diabetics has been one of the activities within my bucket list. I want to create products that one would not feel as guilty to buy for their loved ones.

We want to use this venture as a vehicle to do good. Beyond providing tasty, sugar-free and diabetics-inclusive treats, we want to help funnel additional fund/ resources to diabetics-related causes in Singapore.

All the ingredients for the ice cream has been vetted to be free of any added cane sugar. To sweeten the ice cream, a combination of trehalose🔗, xylitol🔗 and erythitol🔗 has been used in the place of cane sugar; each are either naturally-occuring or nature-derived ingredients. All of the sweeteners used are proven in research to be safe and have beneficial effects to some diabetic patients.

Diabetics-inclusive?

All the ingredients for the ice cream has been vetted to be free of any added cane sugar. To sweeten the ice cream, a combination of trehalose🔗, xylitol🔗 and erythitol🔗 has been used in the place of cane sugar; each are either naturally-occuring or nature-derived ingredients. All of the sweeteners used are proven in research to be safe have beneficial effect to some diabetic patients. The lack of cane sugar also makes Unsugar ice cream suitable for those pursuing keto diets.

We have attained Low-GI certification from Temasek Poly's Glycemic Index Research Unit (GIRU) for our PB flavour, meaning it won't spike your blood sugar level, making it diabetic-inclusive. The rest of the flavours are formulated from the same cane-sugar-free base ingredients with natural-based ingredients (e.g actual grounded cashew instead of essence of cashew)
